Scope of Aeronautical Engineering

The main focus in this area is on design and development that extends to satellite and space research. Aeronautical engineering is an exciting field with scope for growth and job satisfaction. An aeronautical engineer needs to be physically fit as well as fully dedicated to his work.

Required Qualifications

Eligibility: 10 + 2 Science; high percentage in Science subjects and qualifying exam (JEE)
Candidate should be a BE/B.Tech. in aeronautics. Some institutes like The Madras Institute of Technology offers a year postgraduate programme in aeronautical engineering for B.Sc. students. Candidate can also study for M.Tech. and Ph.D. in aeronautics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Those who have passed the Associate membership exam conducted by ASI (Aeronautical Society of India), with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering, can also become aeronautical engineers. It is possible to take a degree in physics or electronics to work in this field and leave more options open.

Eligiblity Criteria for GATE

•    Candidates must have Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and can also be in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

•    Candidates may have Master degree in any branch of Science/Computer Applications /Mathematics/Statistics or equivalent and can also be in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

•    Candidates qualified the examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (for e.g. AMICE(I), AMIE by IE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Candidates those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

•    The candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

What is new in GATE 2010? Some new things have been introduced in GATE 2010:

•    New Paper introduced: Biotechnology (BT) has been introduced as an independent paper from GATE 2010.

•    Common Component of General Aptitude (GA) introduced: Each paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component which will carrying 15 marks from GATE 2010.

Which papers are to be discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards?

The Biotechnology section in Life Sciences (XL) paper has been discontinued from it.
There will not be GATE examination in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper. For more information about it, the candidates have to visit GATE 2010 website from time to time.

Availability of Application Forms for IIT JEE 2010

It is expected that IIT JEE application forms will be available in 3rd week of November. You can buy from the designated branches of banks depending on the details that will be available with release of admission notification. You can request for the forms by sending a demand draft with a request for the form. You can apply online through IIT website by filling the details in the online form and by sending the printed form with Demand Draft and other documents to specified IIT.

For SC/STs a candidate’s age should not be more than 30. Only candidates, who have passed 12th in 2009 or are appearing in 2010, can appear for IIT JEE.

•    The entrance exam is basically held for admission for the above mentioned courses viz. MBBS / BDS / BAMS / B. Pharm. / B. Pharm.(Ay.) but this Screening test is only applicable for the courses other than MBBS.

•    For MBBS, the candidate also has to appear in the Mains examination which is for the students who are short-listed from the Screening test.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU): Largest Residential University

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is an internationally reputed University and is situated in Varanasi. This is the largest Residential University in the entire of Asia as it covers the area up to 16.5 kilometers. BHU has 127 teaching departments.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the great nationalist leader, was the founder of the Banaras Hindu University and founded in the year 1916. In the formation of the BHU, Dr Annie Besant also played a major role. In the Indian independence movement, the Banaras Hindu University played a major role. After some period of time, it became one of the biggest centers of learning in India.
