Eligiblity Criteria for GATE

•    Candidates must have Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and can also be in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

•    Candidates may have Master degree in any branch of Science/Computer Applications /Mathematics/Statistics or equivalent and can also be in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

•    Candidates qualified the examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (for e.g. AMICE(I), AMIE by IE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Candidates those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

•    The candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

•    Computer based Online GATE examination (for MN paper): February 07, 2010, Sunday, 14.30 hrs to 17.30 hrs

•    Computer based Online GATE examination (for TF paper): February 07, 2010, Sunday, 09.30 hrs to 12.30 hrs

•    Offline GATE examination (for all other papers): February 14, 2010, Sunday, 09.30 hrs to12.30 hrs

What is new in GATE 2010? Some new things have been introduced in GATE 2010:

•    New Paper introduced: Biotechnology (BT) has been introduced as an independent paper from GATE 2010.

•    Common Component of General Aptitude (GA) introduced: Each paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component which will carrying 15 marks from GATE 2010.

Which papers are to be discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards?

The Biotechnology section in Life Sciences (XL) paper has been discontinued from it.
There will not be GATE examination in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper. For more information about it, the candidates have to visit GATE 2010 website from time to time.

ONLINE Examination for MN and TF paper:

•    Computer based ONLINE examination for the paper MN will be held in Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Mumbai on February 07, 2010, Sunday at 09.30 hrs to 12.30 hrs
•    Computer based ONLINE examination for the paper TF will be held in Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Mumbai on February 07, 2010, Sunday at 14.30 hrs to 17.30 hrs

Online payment is possible through HDFC bank payment gateway using Visa credit cards or Mastercard and debit cards of some banks as listed on the web site. Through a demand draft, offline payment is also possible.

Eligibility criteria for BHU Medical:

•    The candidates should have cleared their 10+2 exam with subjects English, Chemistry, Physics and biology and have scored minimum of 50% as aggregate in these subjects

•    For SC/ST candidates, the conditions are same lest they have scored minimum of 40% of marks.

•    Candidate must have completed 17 years of age as on 31st Dec of the year in which he/she is taking the exam but he/she should not have exceeded 25 years.

•    Candidates currently giving their 10+2 exam are also eligible to apply for the exam.

Examination Pattern for BHU Medical:

•    The entrance exam is basically held for admission for the above mentioned courses viz. MBBS / BDS / BAMS / B. Pharm. / B. Pharm.(Ay.) but this Screening test is only applicable for the courses other than MBBS.

•    For MBBS, the candidate also has to appear in the Mains examination which is for the students who are short-listed from the Screening test.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU): Largest Residential University

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is an internationally reputed University and is situated in Varanasi. This is the largest Residential University in the entire of Asia as it covers the area up to 16.5 kilometers. BHU has 127 teaching departments.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the great nationalist leader, was the founder of the Banaras Hindu University and founded in the year 1916. In the formation of the BHU, Dr Annie Besant also played a major role. In the Indian independence movement, the Banaras Hindu University played a major role. After some period of time, it became one of the biggest centers of learning in India.

Many great freedom fighters and Nation builders have been produced from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). So, through a large number of artists, renowned scholars and scientists, it has contributed to the progress of the country.

The Banaras Hindu University has a sprawling campus, well maintained roads which are crossing each other at right angle, a temple, extensive greenery, buildings and an airstrip. Another campus of the BHU is there at Barkachha, in Mirzapur district which coveres an area of 2700 acres. The BHU includes three Institutes, 124 Departments, 14 Faculties, 3 Constituent Schools, 4 Interdisciplinary Centers and has a vast range of subjects of all branches of social sciences, humanities, science, medicine, technology, performing arts and fine arts.

BHU also has ten Departments under Special Assistance Programme, six centers of advanced studies, and a large number of specialized Research Centers. Four Degree Colleges are there in Varanasi that all are affiliated to the BHU. The Bharat Kala Bhavan is an art and archaeological museum.

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) also has an engineering institute i.e. institute of Technology, a medical college i.e. Institute of Medical Sciences. It also provides a well-developed sports infrastructure. BHU has number of facilities for hobbies and sports. It has a big auditorium, large playgrounds, a flying club and many other utilities and services such as Publication Cell, Printing Press, subsidized Canteens, Fruit Preservation Center, Employment and information Bureau, Security, etc.
